– Customer review on 23/09/2007 As a brilliant popularizer of science, Carl Sagan seemed poised to leap into fiction with equal aplumb. But Contact is definitely not for the layman or even the strongest reader. The shear amount of hard science in it makes this a tough read and although the backstory for the characters is well informed enough to make you care, you simply don't. The drama isn't quite strong enough. The wonder, awe and mystery of such an event is lost in information overload and a very unwelcoming style of writing. I couldn't muster enough focus or energy to finish it.
