In the eleventh Discworld novel, Death is missing - presumed . . . er . . . gone. Which leads to the kind of chaos you always get when an important public service is withdrawn. Meanwhile, on a little farm far, far away, a tall dark stranger is turning out to be really good with a scythe. There's a harvest to be gathered in. "From the Trade Paperback edition."

Death is fantastic as always. If you haven't read this book, you may be wondering why there is even a Death Of Rats as well as just regular old Death. This book will answer your question. Full of laughs and an awesome plot, this is one of Terry Pratchett's classic works and one of my favourites. If you have to buy just a few of his books for now, make sure that this is one of them.
This is my favourite Discworld novel starring my favourite Discworld character. Terry Pratchett has used Death in cameo appearances in prior (and future) novels but Reaper Man is about the only Discworld novel that examines the personality and mindset of Death in detail. There are other "Death books" but those were concentrated on the other characters more than Death himself.
After nicking the title of repo man, quite cleverly. Death is the star of this novel. The Auditors get a little unhappy with him and his increasing independence, which they see as a threat.
He ends up going to work on a farm, which is really pretty funny. When the whole Death role gets messed up, he has to fight to get his old job back.
I have always enjoyed it when Pratchett lets Death stalk the pages of his novels, and with each novel the character became more and more interesting with genuine depth. This particular novels lets us even more into Death's world by taking him out of his comfort zone and seeing him gainfully employed. The story addresses issues of the development of technology and introduces the Auditors. An incredibly funny and worthwhile read.
Death is fired from his job and sent to live like any other mere mortal of the Discworld. He winds up on a farm, putting his scythe to good use during the harvest season. Meanwhile, the souls of the deceased are piling up without Death to usher them on to the next world. Look out for the hive of shopping trolleys in a very funny parody of "Aliens", complete with "wild, uncontrolled bursts" from the wizards' wands. This is classic Pratchett all the way. One of his best!
Classic pratchett at it's best! This book is totally enjoyable from start to finish, and even had a computer game made about it. I really enjoyed reading this and haven't found many books that top it. Definitely one of the best in the disc world series. For fan's of DEATH in pratchett's other novels this is an absolute must read, the humour is great, and the plot is excellent as well. Top stuff!
This is my favourite Discworld novel. Death, that lovable cat loving character, decides that he's had enough and retires to a farm. What happens for all those poor people who die and there's no-one to take care of them. This is a very, very funny book. I highly recommend this book, I'd give this one six stars if I could.
