Commander Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Guard is determined to stop an unauthorized assassin who jauntily leaves behind corpses and strange-smelling tracks of curious white clay. And he has hired a Dwarf to help him. With the assistance of Corporal Cheery Littlebottom, Vimes and his men can get to the, well, bottom of anything. Even when the investigation leads to an out-of-work "golem", a vampire dragon, and a vegetarian werewolf.
From The Publisher:
It's murder in Discworld! -- which ordinarily is no big deal. But what bothers Watch Commander Sir Sam Vimes is that the unusual deaths of three elderly Ankh-Morporkians do not bear the clean, efficient marks of the Assassins' Guild. An apparent lack of any motive is also quite troubling. All Vimes has are some tracks of white clay and more of those bothersome "clue" things that only serve to muck up an investigation. The anger of a fearful populace is already being dangerously channeled toward the city's small community of golems -- the mindless, absurdly industrious creatures of baked clay who can occasionally be found toiling in the city's factories. And certain highly placed personages are using the unrest as an excuse to resurrect a monarchy -- which would be bad enough even if the "king" they were grooming wasn't as empty-headed as your typical animated pottery.

Feet of Clay is another of Terry Pratchett's brilliant books centred around Sam Vimes and the city watch. This time, there is a killer on the loose, and it is up to the watch to find him. Nobby and Colon are their usual funny selves, as are all the other old (and new!) members of the city watch. Full of fun, you will be laughing out loud if you are anything like me.
There's a mystery happenning, and Sam Vimes doesn't like it. While he doesn't miss the alcoholism of the old days, he misses the simple policing, running round on cold streets with thin shoes. However, Vetinari (the ruler of the city) has been poisoned (not to death!), and SOMEONE has to do SOMETHING about it. And Sam Vimes is rather surprised to find it seems to be his job...
Another great Terry Pratchett with this one starting with when Commander Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Guard is determined to stop an unauthorized assassin who jauntily leaves behind corpses and strange-smelling tracks of curious white clay. And he has hired a Dwarf to help him. With the assistance of Corporal Cheery Littlebottom, Vimes and his men can get to the, well, bottom of anything. Even when the investigation leads to an out-of-work "golem", a vampire dragon, and a vegetarian werewolf. Something that is defiantly a must have for most of the Terry Pratchet readers.
Discworld is a fun place, which neatly mirrors all that is ridicules in our own. With a clever blend of satire, commentary and deft morality, this book entertains for longer than the first reading. I have read my copy about four times now, and am still picking up new things, and stumbling across obscure references that give me stitch with laughter. The Golems and Vimes are an excellent combination, strength, low cunning and hope blended into a heady brew that stands all on its own as a great novel. Read it – if you get TP’s humour then you’re set for the rest of the series.
This book should be called 'Feet of Awesome!' cause it is totally sweet. I really enjoyed reading 'feet of clay'. It has one of the better plots and develops the watch characters to what I feel is their apogee. One of the most interesting parts of this novel was te examination of the Golems in discworld. Though I also liked the usual watch hijinks and Vimes's way of thinking. If you haven't already read 'guards! guards!' and 'men at arms' then it is worth looking at them before reading this. Otherwise, go for it!
This book marked the turning point for Terry Pratchett's work going from merely extremely good to some of the best writing on the market today.
This book is at turns, funny, scary intrigueing and powerfull (cliched as that word is). Commander Vime's interations with Vetinari, the ruler of the city, are some of the best set pieces I have ever read and the overall plot in the book is fantastic.
Veternari is Dead! At least that's the rumour. For the moment he is merely unwell but he doesn't seem to be getting any better. The watch's new 'forensics' department - a very mixed up young dwarf - knows he is being poisoned but doesn't know how. It's up to commander Vimes and his regtag band of misfits to find out who is behind the plot to assasinate the patrician before the city crumble into chaos and at the same time find out who keeps murdering little old men.
Fabulously funny. You can't go wrongf with a discworld novel, especially is Sam Vimes is in it.
