This book is a classic. That means that you have quite high expectations of the book when you read it and are inevitably disappointed when it does not deliver. The ideas of Orwell were quite advanced back in the day. It is amusing to be reading this book more than 20 years after the date of 1984. The author tells us that the future (i.e 1984) will be a terrifying place if we do get to grips with the government. How right he was!

a brilliant book about freedom, and wanting to break free out of a harsh govt regime. this book has started many new words in the english language, many of which are chilling and still used today, such as "big brother", which means a person that watches your every move, as "big brother is always watching", as winston learns in this book.

this is a really good book from geogre orwell! one of those books that you read and instantly feel so smart! this contains lots of phrases from todays society, lkike big brother, as they were coined from this book. this is quite heavy reading, so be warned, and it may take a couple of rereads to get into it, as it did for me!
