I like this series of Karin Slaughters, and am very glad I don't live in their small town as there seem to be a lot of nasty things that go on in this town. I like how this books shows the perspective of other characters, particularly Lena. Knowing a little more about the characters makes the story a lot more interesting.

A medical examiner and her cop ex husband go to the local college to investigate an apparent suicide but the horribly mutilated body gives them very few clues. However it soon becomes apparent that this is just one in a s tring of bizarre and brutal murders that doesn't show any signs of letting up. Ok small town thriller.

Again it seems like the theme of every Karin Slaughter book will be rape or child abuse. Although well written, and definitely strongly plotted, the gore in this book gets in the way. You find your mind returning to some of the more gruesome scenes while you should be focusing on character development. It also seems that she is obsessed with seeing how 'low' her characters can go. I'm torn with these books, they are well written but I can't help feel that I'm being manipulated as I read them. Not sure I would read this again.
