From one of today's most original writers comes the mesmerizing tale of an exceptional young woman caught up in an otherworldly realm where some will stop at nothing to get what they want. Dime Store Magic Paige Winterbourne was always either too young or too rebellious to succeed her mother as leader of one of the world's most powerful elite organizations--the American Coven of Witches. Now that she is twenty-three and her mother is dead, the Elders can no longer deny her. But even Paige's wildest antics can't hold a candle to those of her new charge--an orphan who is all too willing to use her budding powers for evil...and evil is all too willing to claim her. For this girl is being pursued by a dark faction of the supernatural underworld. They are a vicious group who will do anything to woo the young, malleable, and extremely powerful neophyte, including commit murder--and frame Paige for the crime. It's an initiation into adulthood, womanhood, and the brutal side of magic that Paige will have to do everything within her power to make sure they both survive.

Poor Savanagh becomes an orphan, her father that she has never been able to see is dead, her mother recently killed, and now shes stuck with a woman who isnt even a decade older than her!
In enters the young witch Paige Winterbourne. If you have read the previous novels, you will have found that Paige is considered too young for responsibilty, let alone inexperienced to even be considered a serious part of the Witches Council or the Supernatural Counsil.
What I have found fascinating about this one character is her tenacity to fight her way up and through diversity despite her lack of parental skills, knowledge of the dark witch arts and the world around her. I think this is the one novel where not only do we see her grow and develope as a person, but truley come into her own as a leader and character worthy of respect. If you are new to Kelley Armstong, then I insist - buy the whole series, it is worth it.
Kelley introduced us to Paige Winterbourne in her sucessful novel Stolen, now in her own adventure it's the witches turn, involving demons, sorcerers and the occasional ghost. We see Paige fight for her adopted daughter Savannah not only against enemies but supposed allies. Another excellent book by Kelley Armstrong, one that opens up futher the seductive world of the supernaturals. An excellent read recommended for those that enjoy magic with a bit of spice added in.
