Not a bad novel but just a little bit of a disappointment really with this one this time. It has still all the features which reilly usually brings together for a superb novel but well this one dosent really seem to be quite as great really. Ok but not that great.
Area 7 is an action/thriller book, which might be inappropriate for anyone under fifteen years of age. Matthew Reilly really gets a hold of you from page 1, and I was not able to put it down until I was finished. He describes the scenes realistically, placing images in your head that make you feel as if you're there. His story lines are quite believable.
As with all Reilly books, you will need to suspend your disbelief a little to enjoy this. But if you read to escape the confines of reality, then you will love this book.
The hero is back to save the day, and the president of the US (who is suprisingly capable in this tale!!) as well as the fate of the entire world. The way he escapes from seemingly impossible scenarios will suprise you and keep you grinning from start to finish.
Matthew Reilly knows how to keep you turning the pages. His Marine hero Shane Schofield is back from the brilliant "Ice Station" - this time he's on President of the USA protection duty.
His diagrams certainly help to visualise what's going on. The book lags a bit in the middle, but then it picks up towards the end. Schofield is certainly the action man you want in your corner when things go wrong, that's for sure!
Also try Reilly's wonderful "Seven Ancient Wonders," but steer clear of the woeful "Temple."
Matthew Riley is one Australia's newest popular writers among teenagers and adults alike. His first book, Ice Station, was truly engaging and well-written with it's hero, Shane Schofield (Scarecrow) kicking some awesome butt! In Area 7 I started to yawn a little bit when he would 'die' and then come back and 'die' and then amazingly come back. It sort of reaches the point of unbelievability that I didn't find within Ice Station. Still, it's a good read...but I personally put the book down after 3/4 and didn't pick it back up.
Matthew Reilly is one of Australia’s most successful authors. His books are action packed blockbusters that will be loved by any action / adventure / sci-fi fanatic. He is in the class of Tom Clancy with his fast pace and the integration of modern technology. For me, the downfall was the significant sci-fi aspect in his books (I’m not a sci-fi fan)- I found this detracted from the realism of the story. Overall though, fantastic reads and great to listen to.
Capt. Shane Scofield hero of Reilly's first novel, Ice Station has been assigned to guard the President on his helicopter journey to the Nevada desert, where he will conduct a routine inspection of air force bases. Of special interest is the high-security zone, Area 7, wherein Gen. Caesar Russell lurks. Having turned rogue, Russell plans to destroy the United States and sics his elite forces on the President. If he dies, a microchip in his heart will trigger the explosion of nuclear bombs planted by Russell throughout the United States. Scofield, of course, is the man to foil the evil plot and save the day. The action is nonstop and includes shootouts, crazed convicts, wild animals, and, in an eerily timely subplot, a new strain of racially selective biological warfare that has been developed at Area 7. Although Russell's rationale for the destructive chase is implausible and confusing, Area 7 is still an exciting romp.
