This book, much like "Micah" (one of her previous books in this series), while a good story, is just that: a short story. Though I always enjoy reading more about Anita, I was pretty disappointed by the obvious padding of the introduction, the afterward and a bonus little cartoon (not to mention the large font and double spacing) to try and make it look like it was a whole book. It was everything you'd expect from an Anita story; she raised the dead, and she had sex with a random stranger. The only thing missing was the vampires, a little detective work and about 200 more pages.

This book may be a bit of a let down for Anita fans althought it is good to see our girl returning to what she does best - raising the dead. Do not expect an epic read like past books - I read it in the space of my one hour lunch break and I believe the book is very over priced for what you actually get. It doesn't seem to continue on directly from the last novel Skintrade. In fact, it could be a short story/novella.

Could approx. 150 pages even be considered a novel? This is a pathetic excuse for an Anita Blake Vampire Hunter book. I was extremely disappointed, even if the author does add in a zombie raising rather than just the sex content like the last few books.

This was very cute - well in as much as a twisted and blood-thirsty author can get cute :) It was a very quick story line and really a quite slim volume but for us die-hard anita lovers we'll take what we can get! Im always interested in an author's process & thoughts but the "chat" and comic after the story kind of belaboured the point for me... Im not going to wreck it for you but you'll know what I mean. I'm going to love anything (& do love anything) Laurell Hamilton writes but perhaps I was a bit more excited than was warranted.

I felt that this book could have been written by anyone. Anita was slightly "off" - she did things that were out of character. The length of the book was also a big disappointment as it was really only a short story. Of the 192 pages of the book, 34 were about how Laurel writes her stories so the book was a teeny 158 pages long.

This is a good book to read when you have a few hours to kill - like on the plane or during a bus ride. The story is a bit predictable and not very original, but characters are realistic and fun. However, this book does not live up to the standards of her previous books.
