About the Author

Miriam S. Zach, Ph.D. is a cosmopolitan musicologist, organist, harpsichordist, pianist, choral conductor, professor, chamber musician, and author. In 1998 she recorded her CD Hidden Treasures: 300 Years of Organ Music by Women Composers on the four-manual Mander organ in Princeton University Chapel. Since 1996 Dr. Zach has taught music history courses in the Honors Program at the University of Florida where she was named Professor of the Year (2000-2001). In 2000 she created a new honors course on music & health that she continues to teach at the University of Florida. In 2007 she and her husband Dr. Mikesch Muecke published the edited book Resonance: Essays on the Intersection of Music and Architecture (Culicidae Press). Since then they have been collaborating by teaching architecture studios and honors courses on music and architecture at Iowa State University. After completing degrees at Northwestern University and the University of Chicago, Dr. Zach lived in Germany for five years teaching piano at the Universität Bielefeld, singing in the Kantorei St. Nicolai in Lemgo, and touring Europe with her husband. As founder and creative director of the International Women Composers Library, she continues to organize annual International Festivals of Women Composers which have been crossroads for networking among women composers and their advocates since 1996.
