Corinna Chapman, owner of Earthly Delights, detests Christmas. She's dreaming of quiet, air-conditioned comfort but instead finds herself dealing with a rose-loving donkey named Serena, a maniacal mother with staring eyes, a distracted assistant searching for the perfect muffin recipe, her friend the fearless witch Meroe, and the luscious Daniel, with whom she'd like to spend a lot more time. But Daniel is on the hunt to find two young runaways, Brigid and Manny. This simple Romeo-and-Juliet romance, though, is not as straightforward as it seems and they will go a long way to ensure they're not found. When Corinna and Daniel find that Brigid is on the streets, heavily pregnant and in danger, the stakes rise. With the help of a troupe of free-spirited freegans, some very clever internet hackers and a bunch of vegans, Corinna and Daniel go head-to-head with a sinister religious cult on a mission and a band of Romany gypsies out for revenge in a wild and wonderful chase against the clock.

Reviews
Those who care more for food than crime-solving will best appreciate Australian author Greenwood's fifth comic mystery featuring Melbourne baker Corinna Chapman (after 2009's Trick or Treat). Corinna remains ecstatically involved with her lover, PI Daniel Cohen, who winds up on the trail of two 16-year-old runaways, Brigid O'Ryan and Manny Lake, though Brigid and Manny's respective parents disagree whether the pair went off together. Greenwood throws some militant vegans and freegans as well as a donkey with a taste for rosewater-infused muffins into the plot, but the pieces fail to coalesce as they do in her superior Phryne Fisher series (Cocaine Blues, etc.), in which she deftly balances humor and suspense. In this series, setups are more farcical than funny, and some may grow weary of Corinna's frequent editorializing about one food item or another she's just eaten. Once again Kerry provides us with a great read. Following on with the lives surrounding the bakery and adding that touch of mystery and intrigue. Love the recipes too.

Kerry Greenwood has delivered again. I have just finished "Forbidden Fruit" and I think I enjoyed it more than the other 4 previous books, although it really is hard to diferentiate between them for a quality read.
I really don't know what it is that makes a good writer, but whatever it is, these books really appeal to me. I enjoy the plots, the style is easy, and the books flow well. Being a size 18/20 myself, it is so good to have a "real" heroine, one I can equate with, one who seems a real person.
I am hanging out for the next Greenwood, be it Chapman or Fisher, or whoever.

I enjoyed this book and found that I liked seeing Corinna's relationship with Daniel develop more, along with the relationships she has with everyone else in her building. The two different storylines with the vegans and the runaways made for a good read.

Another excellent tale of Corinna Chapman, our fabulous crime-solving baker, and the wonderful group of special individuals who share her unusual premises. In this book we explore what Christmas means for our baker, more on her relationship with luscious Daniel, her encounter with a rose-loving donkey named Serena, Daniel's hunt for two young runaways and discover more about her friend the witch Meroe.
Our family have enjoyed sharing the delights of Corinna and look forward to each new book to see the relationships develop. Daniel is a hunky partner who has become embedded in the life of Corinna. Set in Melbourne, written by an Australian author, these stories keep the reader turning the pages to see what happens next.
I've enjoyed all Kerry Greenwoods tales. Her other series - Australian Crime Fiction exploring the antics of glamorous Phryne Fisher (also set in Melbourne but in a different era), are just as good. Greenwood also has a series of Ancient History novels, science fiction and non-fiction. I haven't found a book by this author that I haven't enjoyed. I hope Kerry Greenwood continues to write for a long time to come.
