An excellent read for teenagers and adults. As a teacher I found this very inspiring and now I use it as a text with my senior students. A great lead-in to the holocaust, The Diary of Anne Frank and Zlata's diary. Highly recommended!
Every teacher, especially secondary school teachers, should read this book. It is an uplifting story about a teacher's belief in the ability of her pupils to get an education and change their lives for the better. It also makes us think how often the outcome of our own lives meets our expectations - no more, no less. If just some of our teachers have the passion of Erin Gruwell, our children will come out of secondary school not just well educated, but better people.
An inspirational story on the gift of time and education from a teacher to her students. It showed that children can achieve anything if given the respect and voice to be heard.
I loved this book. Incredibly inspirational. A great read for teenagers but also one adults would also enjoy. The kids are all very heart warming and the story leaves you feeling up lifted. I also highly recommend the movie.
For any teacher this book is a must. It shows what can be done if you care enough. This shows that there is hope for all, but only if someone has the courage to step out and make a difference.
The book is written from excerpts of the diaries that the class had as an assignment. Many of the excerpts are sad and some are disturbing, however they portray the change that was involved in these students. The students started out as the 'loosers' and found themselves through the help of Ms Gruwell.
An excellent read, and goes beautifully with the DVD Freedom Writers.
great book. after read this book i wish that we had a teacher like this in every school and how it does not matter what sort of life you have that you can change it. I have now give the book to my teenage daughter to read. and other people have ask to read it next.
