This is a quality book that provides comprehensive information on the requirements for growing fruit and vegetables. The book presents general information about plant requirements such as soil types, fertilizers and manures, composting, crop rotation and soil preparation. Information is presented on the sowing and planting of vegetable seeds. Each vegetable has a summary table on when to sow, transplant and harvest for which month. The vegetables are grouped into different categories such as roots, salads and leafy vegetables, with specific information for each category. The fruit section provides information regarding planning, pruning and planting of fruit trees. Each fruit tree has specific information on pruning and general care requirements. This is a valuable resource for any gardener.

I really like that book. Has detailed information on planting, when to plant. Lots of photos as well. Very good book for the hobby gardener or the person who does not like to read too much.

Great book. Really detailed instructions and descriptions. Great for beginners, but also includes the advanced techniques that I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone wanting to grow fruit, vegetables or herbs in the back yard.

Brilliant - I've been looking for a comprehensive book on fruit and vegie gardening for a long time. Most others I've come across simply list the cultivars for each plant and outline a little about planting and picking. This however, has a lot more about care and maintenance of plants, pruning, identifying nutrient and disease problems etc. I've a large backyard with a good size vegie patch, and a small orchard with a variety of fruit and nut trees and I've found this, like other Royal Hort Society Aust. books invaluable.

Excellent book. Having moved to Brisbane I found it difficult to know what to plant and when. This book gives you detailed information about the seasons (12 seasons) what to plant when and location in garden. It also has pest management informant, how to encourage good insects. Not only vegetables and fruit but herbs also included. If you can only buy one book go with this. Good all round basic but detailed book a must for beginner and experienced gardener.

This book is fantastic. Its a complete gardening bible that covers everything you need to know about most fruit and vegetables that would be grown in the average kitchen garden, as well as a lot of other less common fruit and vege. The planting tips are detailed specific and easy to read to understand. The pruing diagrams for trained fruit trees are especially good if you don't know what you're doing ( like me).
I've given this book to friends as well, and they all love it.
