Reviews
"Gregory C. Richter's fluent new translation shows one of Freud's most popular books to be as clear, colloquial, and compelling as anything else by the master of psychoanalysis, and Todd Dufresne's entertaining introduction makes a good case for its surprising contemporary relevance, in spite of its often puzzling arguments."--Thomas Kemple, University of British Columbia

The Future of an Illusion is one of the relatively lesser known books by Sigmund Freud, but nevertheless one of the most interesting. This book explains's Freud's ideas about interpretation of religion's roots, development, and psychoanalysis etc. Freud criticized religion as a false belief system that emerges because of our wishes.
He defines religion as "certain dogmas, assertions about facts and conditions of external and internal reality which tell one something that one has not oneself discovered, and which claim that one should give them credence."
There is plenty of original and very thought provoking material in this book, which you will surely enjoy even if you don't agree with all of his ideas.
