Sarah Buckley might be called a third-wave natural birth advocate. A doctor and a mother, she approaches the question of how a woman and baby might have the most fulfilling birth experience with respect for the wisdom of both medical science and the human body. Using current medical and epidemiological research plus women's experiences (including her own), she demonstrates that what she calls 'undisturbed birth' is almost always healthier and safer than hospital births. Her wise counsel on issues like breastfeeding and sleeping during post-partum helps extend the gentle birth experience into a gentle parenting relationship.

Excellent, outstanding, wonderful, empowering... quite simply my favourite pregnancy/early parenting book on the market. And I have read LOTS. I read this book at the recommendation of my midwife. How incredibly grateful I am to her for introducing me to Dr Sarah Buckleys book, it had such a positive influence on my pregnancy and now my parenting choices. BRILLIANT :)
This book wasn't for me. I much preferred Hypno Birthing - The Morgan Method over this book. I purchased this book as I thought it would offer additional natural birthing techniques as the the Hypno Birthing book did.
I found this book rather daunting at times and think that is could really freak some first time Mother's out. Especially those that are a little more high risk and need to visit their OB more often.
Whilst I think the author is an amazing woman and I admire her for her strength and courage during labour. I wouldn't recommend this book.
A great book and learning tool for any new mother for a very natural birth and mothering approach. Also very good for any Childbirth Educator to look into and read.
Bit technical at first but love the whole message, and if the beginning doesnt scare you too much you will love the second half on gentle mothering! fantastic author.
An outstanding book on pregnancy and parenting. If you only buy one book on your journey in pregnancy, make it this one. Sarah J. comes from a medical background, but her views and experiences of pregnancy and birth are anything but medical. She writes with the knowledge of a doctor and the wisdom of a mother. Chapters include infomation on ultrasound and drugs in birth that most of us have never had access to before. This book is a great read while you are pregnant but also a useful tool afterwards too. Expand your knowledge about pregnancy, birth and beyond and read this book!
I thoroghly enjoyed reading this book. Beautifully written by a doctor and mother who shares the birth stories of her own children, this book will challenge your views on conventional birth and practices leading up to the birth (including ultrasound scans) and encourage you to consider what is important to you. Whilst some of the parenting chapters I found a little 'hippie' it was still great to be informed about the different options available and ultimately, to trust yourself and be guided by what you believe is right for you and your baby.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book while pregnant. Written by a mother and doctor, the reader recieves information from both scientific perspective and personal experience. For the conscious and aware mother-to-be who may want support toward natural birth and gentle mothering. It promotes information to make informed choice on birthing and mothering issues such as labour, ultrasounds, epidurals, homebirth, breastfeeding, attachment parenting, co-sleeping and elimination communication. It is an inspiring and positive read.
