First in the Millenium trilogy by Larsson, this crime fiction is set in Sweden with a fairly typical Swedish crime fiction hero, the 40-ish fellow a bit like Wallender in Henning Mankell's (Swedish crime) series. The heroine, a young and brilliant "wild" and non-communicative girl with a photographic memory, is not so "real" to me, and seems a little bit exaggerated, but I enjoyed the story nonetheless. And it is really great to read the 2nd and 3rd novels after this one. The book is a little slow to get into, but pace picks up and the mystery is solved quite satisfactorily. I ended up wanting to read the sequel immediately, without a break between books.
