Jacob Grimm (1785-1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786-1859) were brothers who spent most of their professional lives transcribing and compiling German folktales from the oral tradition. The publication of their volume Children's and Household Tales in 1812 served as the foundation for most collections of fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm for the next two centuries. Arthur Rackham (1867-1939) was a prolific British artist who illustrated numerous books including Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, Aesop's Fables, A Christmas Carol, The Wind in the Willows, and Edgar Allan Poe's Tales of Mystery and Imagination.
