"Handmade Home" offers simple sewing and craft projects for the home that reflect the needs, activities, and personalities of today's families. Filled with thirty-three projects made by re-using and re-purposing materials - from vintage feedsacks to old sheets and towels - and including some projects that children can help with, all of the items here offer a practical use in the home. Amanda Soule does much more than simply present a collection of handmade items; she reveals crafting as a lifestyle based on the principles of consuming less and reusing more, appreciating the earth, and connecting to our families. This is a craft book that gives you the tools for creating a life - and a home - full of beauty, integrity, and joy. Projects include: Papa's Healing Cozy - This hot water bottle cover becomes a simple way to offer comfort to a sick child; Baby Sling - A simple pattern for an object that offers so much to a small child - refuge from the world and a place to lay their head next to a parent's heart; Beach Blanket To-Go - Repurpose old sheets to create the perfect picnic blanket for special outdoor meals; and, Cozy Wall Pockets - A creative solution for storing a child's small treasures.
"Amanda Blake Soule makes me want to run to my sewing basket and pull out needle and thread."--Barbara Mahany, "Chicago Tribune"
This is a lovely, homely-style book, with lots of ideas - but if you're looking for something a bit different, this isn't the book for you. I bought this title on the strength of reviews on other websites :), and was expecting the world! What I found was a beautifully presented and photographed, beginner-type book. It would be good for a crafty child or teenager, rather than skilled arty-type. Nothing new here.
another wonderful book from amanda, we have her "creative family" book and couldn't wait to get this one. It is filled with wonderful and practical projects to create with and for your loved ones. projects are arranged carefully with lists of what you need, and what you can recycle, as well as whether it is suitable for little ones to help, and also estimated time to do the project. the book itself has a wonderful visual charm, and is one of those that you love to flip through even if you don't get around to a project for a while. It put a smile on my dial just to flip through and i will savor having the time to make a few of the most appealing projects. I particularly love those that the children have drawn on- family portrait bookmarks especially. a great gift to make.
I love this book. There are a lot of simple to complete projects which are also great ideas. It is wonderful for the inexperienced crafter and beautiful to look at. I'll be using this not only for myself but as a resource for handmade gifts. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
I don;t won this, yet, but i would love to, it just sounds amazing.
