'In a brief statement on Friday night, Minister for Magic Cornelius Fudge confirmed that He Who Must Not Be Named has returned to this country and is once more active. "It is with great regret that I must confirm that the wizard styling himself Lord - well, you know who I mean - is alive and among us again," said Fudge.' These dramatic words appeared in the final pages of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. In the midst of this battle of good and evil, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince takes up the story of Harry Potter's sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, with Voldemort's power and followers increasing day by day

Dale gets his A game on once again, returning to the wizarding realm where his previous visits have earned him accolades that include a Grammy. By this sixth installment, Dale has created well over 130 different voices, shifting easily from his own slightly Americanized British accent to distinctive Scottish, French and regional English takes. In addition to keeping stars Harry, Hermione, Ron, Dumbledore and Hagrid firmly identifiable and in the fore this time, he serves up a delightful spin on Professor Horace Slughorn, the new teacher at Hogwarts. Slughorn's smarmy tone and Dale's guttural delivery are a winning and memorable combo. As Harry's saga darkens and his adventures become more perilous, Dale also gets to explore deeply villainous voices-with evil hisses and sharp edges-more than ever (but we won't tell you whose). Ages 9-up. (July) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.

'For her success in creating what will undoubtedly be a highly literate generation Rowling deserves great praise' The Spectator

Gr 5 Up-It's no surprise that everyone's favorite teen wizard is still battling Voldemort. What does perplex the young hero is a forgotten textbook with secret writing that brings together Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Scholastic, 2005). J. K. Rowling returns Harry, Hermione, and Ron to Hogworts amidst troubling signs that the Dark Lord and the Deatheaters are gaining strength. Fortunately, Headmaster Dumbledore is helping his apt pupil prepare for an expected showdown by taking Harry to remembered incidents in the life of his old enemy. Less dangerous, but still disturbing, Ron and Hermione have put Harry in the middle of their incessant bickering. Then there's Slytherin Prefect Draco Malfoy who's under orders to commit murder-but who is his intended victim? Finally, Professor Snape is now teaching the Defense of the Dark Arts class, but he appears to be doing some dark deeds of his own. A blossoming relationship with Ginny Weasley is a bright spot for Harry, but another personal loss forces him to make some grave decisions by the novel's end. Narrator Jim Dale is completely at home with all his familiar characters and just as adept at creating new vocal personas for returned faculty such as Potions Master Slughorn. Experienced Harry Potter listeners will recognize Snape's haughty hiss and Dumbledore's smooth heartiness before the text identifies them. Even house elves Dobby and Kreacher are unmistakable during their brief appearances. Every library will need this audiobook, but it would be wise to buy two copies since they'll be zooming off the shelves faster than a broomstick.-Barbara Wysocki, Cora J. 5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 09/01/2011

As Harry Potter begins his 6th year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, he discovers an old book marked mysteriously "This book is the property of the Half-Blood Prince" and begins to learn more about Lord Voldemort's dark past. Its a book of excitment and being unable to put it down it won't disapoint.

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 10/12/2008

This definitely lived up to expectations. There were a lot of twists and turns and revelations, insights into the characters and how everything turned out the way they did. Quite an epic! I'm in awe of J.K. Rowling for creating such a mind numbingly amazing series!

Although there is ONE thing about this book that I didn't like as it seemed too...fanfic-ish. The epilogue just really, really didn't sit well with me. At all. However, this was such a great book and a great series that one little epilogue would not have me rate it any less than a 5/5 it deserves.

Highly recommended.

Drawing to a close ... This book is full of surprises. The sixth book of the series and J.K. Rowling still has readers spellbound. This book will not disappoint. Another 5 star read. You will not be able to put it down, but have some tissues handy.

this was an enormous step up from the fifth book, several revelations (ok several enormous revelations) are unveiled in this second last book of the famous harry potter series, and we see one of the main characters bid adieu to all fans (yes, prepare to be crying bucket fuls by the end of this)

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 23/07/2007

Great book. Second to last book in the Harry Potter series, so basically the sixth book by J.K Rowling. Its a great book. Spellbidind. We continue in harry's adventures along with hermione and Ron. Dumbledore continues to show us more about Voldemort's past and what has made Voldemort essentially immortal. Horcruxes. We also see more of the Hermione and Ron relationship in the making and also FINALLY Harry and Ginny get together. BUT will the book end in tragedy? the end draws near.

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 13/07/2007

This was a great book. It was full of adventure, action, love and sadness.
In this book Harry finally realises what he must do to defeat the Dark Lord. He and Dumbledore complete many journeys into the memory of others who have known Lord Volemort as a boy trying to uncover as much of Volemorts past as the could. Dumbledore and Harry create a close relationship throughout this book which will last to the end of Harry's life.
Out of all the rest of the books in the series I think this is the best one yet.
You don't know what you are missing out on if you dont read the Harry Potter series.

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 12/07/2007

Very goos book, just like all the others. I recom eed that parents use these books as tools to get their kids interested in reading, as well as having a look at them themselves! This is a great book, fantastic story, riveting ending, and a really good lead on to the final chapter of the harry potter saga. I think that these books will be sadly missed when the story is fially finished, luckily we can all read them again and again. 5 Stars.

4 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 09/07/2007

This is a very epic book, although its page count is somewhat shorter than its predecessor. Harry has reached the ripe old age of 16 and is learning more than ever how to combat the evil that is embodied in Lord Voldemort, the man who murdered Harry's parents and then turned the wand on Harry. But he couldn't kill Harry and was defeated, for a time. Harry is the Chosen One, and a heavy weight rests upon his shoulders.
