This is perhaps an overly simple introduction to the whole wicca thing. Depending on the cover of the edition you bought, it might seem that new generation witches do still ride broomstocks, which is pretty funny. Presumably this is intentional on her part to suck people in to picking it up and having a look.
I found this book to be a great guide for beginners, as it goes through sections in a clear manner, and at the end of each section there is a small exercise for you to complete to aid you in learning more about this path.
As someone who has been in the Craft for a few years now, this book didn't cover anything new for me, but it was a great book none the less!
This is actually quite a comprehensive book (despite the rather 'cute and fluffy' cover picture), covering the many aspects of the craft in simple language and easy to understand sections and chapters. I recommend it for beginners or those fairly new to the craft who are looking for a basic overview of the principles of this ancient system of belief and practice. Topics covered include spells, rituals, deities, beliefs, correspondences, elements, herbs, etc, etc. Also has a question and answer section, as well as many resources to keep you busy. Recommended!
It's fashionable to bash Silver Ravenwolf in occult circles, and there are very good reasons for this. Her history is appalling, her magic formulaic, and her tone unfailingly patronising. However.
If you're very new to wicca, witchcraft, or pagan religions, this book may be an eye-opener. It was one of the first books I ever read about modern magic, and the variety of practices (divination, candle magic, etc) and the folksy anectodes fascinated me. It was interesting to read that there were people that actually lived witchcraft, day-to-day.
Knowing then what I know now, I wouldn't have bought this book. Jennifer Hunter's 21st Century Wicca is now my wicca 101 book of choice.
