A wonderful book for those of us who question why we are really here. It gives great insight into knowing who we really are! Easy to understand language makes this book a pleasure to read. Simple ideas and principles, no alignment with any particular religion makes it accessible to all! This book will definitely be a 'stayer' on my book shelf! Highly recommended - but also read his other book 'A new earth'
I read this book maybe 10 years ago close to the first publication, I have raved about it ever since. He gives powerful and insighful information about staying in the now and how to be happy in the present. I had my husband read it and my 4 children and all my friends. I still have the copy as it is always current and useful, imformative and spiritual. In my opinion, it will never be outdated. Don't only buy it, add it to your collectorsas an all time classic spiritual book.
The Power of Now is a great book and presented well for the main stream many of whom probably hadn’t so much experience with methods like Vipassana meditation of mindfulness practice. Eckhart also modernizes and integrates many of the experiences on a “daily life” level that practitioners of Vipassana or mindfulness meditation would come across in their usual practice. For this reason this is a very valuable book for many beginning practitioners. On the other hand people who have read this book, practiced the techniques and began to feel like they need more would get a lot out of learning Vipassana or other styles of deep awareness meditation with an experienced teacher. As far as I’m concerned the two are the same. Good on Eckhart for making these principles available to the mainstream!
I found this book very interesting, and loved the fact that Tolle does not refer to any one specific religion. He describes his concepts about enlightenment which sit with any religion. It is straight forward and his questions and answers style of writing is very easy to read - almost like a conversation rather than essay style writing. I recommend this book to anyone interested in developing their beliefs of spirituality and enlightenment.
Always interesting to read another persons view on life, this is a good one, funny how you know it all and just dont know how to put it in practice. Every person should be able to relate to this book and get something out of it. Very interesting!!
As cliche as it sounds, The Power of Now changed my outlook on life. Eckhart manages to both simplify ancient spiritual teachings and make it relevent to this time and place. This book appeals to the intellect, but to be understood deeply must be read with the 'internal mind'. If you can put aside your rationale mind and try and absorb this from a deeper place in your soul, it will transform you. To those who have been trying to understand their purpose and the meaning of life, this will give you a renewed sense of faith and hope. What I found personally appealing is that it rings so true. It does not rely on religion or a belief system even, but pure logic. Also the teachings in the book are consistent in itself. Whatever faith you are of, this book will inspire to go deeper into your own faith and discover the real you.
The Power of Now is probably the best starting place for engaging with simple and genuine spirituality that is not caught up in the belief systems of religion. If you have yet to read it, do yourself a favour and get a copy immediately.
