From The Publisher:
Not your typical boring diet book, this is a tart-tongued, no-holds-barred wakeup call to all women who want to be thin. With such blunt advice as, "Soda is liquid Satan" and "You are a total moron if you think the Atkins Diet will make you thin," it's a rallying cry for all savvy women to start eating healthy and looking radiant. Unlike standard diet books, it actually makes the reader laugh out loud with its truthful, smart-mouthed revelations. Behind all the attitude, however, there's solid guidance. Skinny Bitch espouses a healthful lifestyle that eliminates meat and dairy foods, promotes whole grains, fruits, and vegetables, and encourages women to get excited about feeling "clean and pure and energized."

Although there is some merit in this book, I feel it ought to come with a warning. The authors are both vegan, and push that agenda throughout the book. I have no issue with that, except that in this case it means telling some of the most horrific stories about animal cruelty and abuse with no warning whatsoever that it was coming up.
I was so horrified that I almost threw up - I unfortunately read one of them without realising what they were going to be talking about, and it's giving me nightmares. This is hardcore stuff straight out of PETA's doctrine. I understand that they think they're doing the right thing but it was not at all what I expected of this book and I wanted to warn others.
I put the book down at that chapter and will not read anymore.
I really liked this book. It is presented in such a fun, light hearted, but serious way. They promote a total vegan lifestyle and are good about telling you what is okay to eat and what is not. I'm already vegetarian, but have been thinking about going vegan for awhile....milk and cheese don't agree with me. This book was very helpful in giving me the push I needed to say, Just Do It, Girlfriend! They have great suggestions for the healthy foods to use to replace the bad foods until you can really pull away from most processed foods. Enjoyable, clear, organized, straightforward, short & sweet!
This book was really good for helping me get over my weakness for unhealthy foods that were doing nothing for me but making me have to buy bigger jeans. Thanks to this book I'm losing weight and feeling great!!! A mst read for anyone struggling with weight issues...
i actually dont beleive in diet books and then i got skinny bitch after seeing victoria beckham reading....lol sad, I KNOW! but it truly is an amazing book! there is lots of humour which really helped me to embrace the diet tips and not shy away for them and it is also a very relatable book which was also something i liked. it felt like i was more talking to a friend then rading a diet self help book
I started reading this book and it certainly grabbed my attention. It was funny and no-nonsense. I loved the funny antics that both of the ladies have put in this book but there was a huge downfall. At the start it doesn't mention anything about pushing vegans. I don't care who chooses to put what in they're bodies as I believe it is a very personal choice but up until I put the book down (I haven't finished it) I have never felt so pressured to give up everything to be vegan. Unfortunately yes animals do get tortured and yes there is something that should be done about it but putting graphic information about the mistreatment and torture of such animals with no hint of a warning is beyond wrong (this is the part where I didn't eat for almost 3 days because I felt so sick and as such haven't touched the book since). Rather then putting all the energy into writing the graphic stories they could have done other things like petitioned the companies who put "cage eggs" on the packet in only a couple shades lighter then the overall packaging changed so it is considadarably darker and easily read is just one thing that the could have done.
I do believe that the diet side of this book is good however a lot of it is common sense easily picked up from less graphically vegan orientated books.
Absolutely hysterically funny! The chapter on meat is not relevant to Australia as antibiotics residues are not allowed in Aust meat but slaughter is slaughter; Aust aims to be as humane as possible but if you can't stomach it, don't eat it. (I've seen it ALL).
I recommend this book but understand if you can't live by it!
I loved this book! Yes, it does have some graphic information, but they do warn you that it is coming. It does cover veganism, but is not a vegan book. If you just wanted to get healthier they have some pretty solid guidelines. And again, with the 'horror stories', they are true. It isn't just a story, and you are free to read the book and make up your own mind about what you put into your body. That is the main point of the book: learn how to use your heads. Don't be brainwashed by the myth that you can eat all the butter you want and not get fat. Think. I loved the book, I got past that chapter, not without a few tears, but I got past it, and the rest of the book, too, is fab. And if you want one final recommendation: look at those girls! They are Skinny Bitches! Do you want to be a Skinny Bitch?? Hmmm, thought so. Me too. Get the book!
This book was amazing and it is definitely not your average dieting book.
Since reading it I became so educated about food and whats in it! It's amazing how little you actually know about what you put in your body!
Whats more, since I finished it I have beocme vegan and it was the best decision I have ever made. Not only do I feel better knowing that I am doing my part (however small it may be) but I have also dropped 9 kilos in 2 months without working out! Also, I can still eat hot chips (cooked from home with real potatoes of course), sorbet and soda -- although skinny bitch would tell you to drop these bad habits! I'm getting there!
A definite must read for anyone who cares about their body and other species' bodies. You'll never look back! -- You'll just wish that you had read it sooner!
Skinny Bitch promotes a vegan lifestyle (no meat, dairy or animal products) as a way on losing weight and maintaining optimal health. The book is very readable and really does feel like a girlfriend giving you the low-down on healthy eating.
Be warned - there is a lot of swearing in the book and the authors are extremely no-nonsense in their approach. Some of the ideas in Skinny Bitch are hard to swallow if you are unfamiliar with veganism, but I highly recommend this book and the principals contained therein.
a very good self-help book, with lots of fantastic dieting tips, and it is also incredibly humourous. diets to a whole new level i believe this book is about, and also dieting myths etc...a fantastically fun read, recommended to any of you sick to death of dieting, but wishing you could fit into that special dress for that special someone...loved it!!
