If you want to understand that deeper yearning you have to find out about yourself your place in the universe and for some God, look no further. The hero with a thousand faces is one of the defining books that will stand out in your memory. It takes you on a step by step journey into the discovery of what makes a hero, why the hero is important and how everyone is on their own journey. Some psychologists use the hero's journey to explain the paths we take and how they affect the way we make decisions and how we handle the results of those decisions. A great book that writers and screenwriters should have on their shelf and everyone else will devour to solve their own life mysteries.

In the Hero with a Thousand Faces Joseph Campbell traces the myths and stories associated with the heroic archetype through all the varied cultures and types, also looking at a psychological viewpoint at times. Very interesting from a storytelling point of view, and at something that resonates so strongly around the world.

This book has been termed one of the most influential books of the 20th century, especially in regard to the movie making and storytelling industries. Full of inspiration for both telling tales, and even life itself, this book is well written and though provoking.

Joseph Campbell writes in a very easy to read format, and the book is filled with gems of myths and stories. He links all world mythology together by their common strands, and compares them to each other, trying to pull out meanings and truths from them that have long since been forgotten.

Highly recommended.
