Art Spiegelman's biographical type account of conversations with his father. A Jewish family he talks about the war, nazis, the Holocaust, the events surrounding all of that history, terror, and survival.

The effects on them later in their lives, and how they feel about it are also elements of this work.

This is a really interesting idea, which was very controversial in its time. The idea was to put the holocaust into a comic, so that it was easy to read and more personal than facts and figures in a book. I read it and didn’t like it, but I can’t deny that it was a powerful affirmation of life. Some of the images were too emotive, and the racial stereotypes were disturbing (poles are pigs for example) but other than that, yes, it’s worth a read. I never looked back over it though, so maybe it’s a library book… just to see if you like it or not.
