– Customer review on 16/12/2006 John Keegan was right on the money when he stated Goldsworthy is one of our most promising young military historians today. This is one of the best-written and most interesting and entertaining books on the subject I've had the pleasure of reading. Goldsworthy covers the careers of 15 of Rome's greatest generals, beginning with Fabius and Marcellus in the 3rd Century BC to Belisarius in the 6th Century AD and beyond. It's one of my favourites which I'll definitely read again, and I'd highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in ancient Rome or military history.
