The first truly cool guide to making the essentials of a stylish wardrobe using 3 Simplicity(R) patterns created exclusively for this book. Like knitting before it, sewing is being reclaimed by a new generation; one that is bored by poor quality and homogenous design. Downtown fashion designer Wendy Mullin of 'Built by Wendy' will teach the creatively-inclined and ultra-stylish how to make the perfect skirt, shirt and trousers. She gives readers everything they need to know to begin sewing and provides step-by-step instructions and patterns directly from her own studio. She'll explain how to customise everything from the fit to the pockets so readers can create a thousand different looks using the same 3 patterns. These ideas will inspire readers to rethink and revamp all their old clothes to make unique, custom fashions. For those who find themselves brimming with ideas, but unable to make everything themselves, Wendy also offers guidance on how to work with a tailor.

Sewing has been given somewhat of a bad rap in recent times, and unfortunately so given that it is such a sensible skill for any person to have. Often ridiculed as being seriously uncool, with the Sew U book by Wendy Mullin, sewing can finally be recognised amongst its crafty peers like knitting, which has experienced it's own modern resurgence in recent years.
This book is a one stop shop for creating your own skirts, shirts and pants - complete with full easy to follow instructions and patterns for bringing your designs to life. The hardcover spiral bound book makes it easy to lay flat while following directions, and the wonderful illustrations by indie artist Beci Orpin add another layer of cool-edginess to the whole product.
This is one for both creatively minded beginners, and also for more experienced sewers. This is a great way to save money on expensive clothes and showcase your individual style by creating your very own wearable works of art.
Loads of great information that doesn't assume any knowledge really; even demystifies the names of all those different kinds of fabrics and tells you how to prepare fabric before even starting to cut. And great ideas about setting up a room or space to sew, and how to store everything. The actual patterns I'm not so sure about, only in that I already have a great book on skirts, I'm not that keen on ordinary button-up shirts and the pants look just a little advanced for me yet. But I may give them a try in time. In general it's a great resource written by someone who seems to be mostly self-taught through trial and error and is passing on plenty of useful wisdom.
This book is very handy for somebody who is starting out in sewing clothes and already knows a few things about sewing. If you have no clue about sewing, parts of this book may seem too foreign to understand. The patterns featured in this book look reasonably easy to create (although I have yet to try my hand). I think if it had more clear diagrams of each step you need to take it would be even better as some parts are a little hard to understand. But overall I think it is a good addition to your sewing library and will really help those who want to start making their own clothes.
Sew U book by Wendy Mullin is just devine I love this book. The photos and the projects are just gorgeous. So much inspiration in one book - it's amazing. I'm itching to work on some of these projects! Really well written instructions with lots of other helpful information included as well. This is a definite must have!!!
