In an age of mass-produced, look-alike merchandise, there's no greater pleasure than to receive - or to give - a handmade gift. To make gifts for family and friends testifies to your esteem for them and to your loving dedication of precious energy and time. These days, few people have time to create elaborate hand-fashioned gifts. Understanding the demands on contemporary crafters' schedules - but understanding, too, their wish to express their love and care in this very personal way - led Joelle Hoverson to write "Last-Minute Knitted Gifts". Now, in the follow-up to that extremely successful 2004 volume - with nearly 80,000 copies in print - Hoverson and photographer Anna Williams present "Last-Minute Patchwork + Quilted Gifts".The book - designed for use by both first-time and long-time quilters - features 30 patchwork and quilted projects organized according to the amount of time it takes to complete them: less than 2 hours, 2 to 4 hours, 4 to 8 hours, 8 to 12 hours and 12 hours or more. The gifts are inspired by Amish, Appalachian and Japanese quilting traditions, among others and range from easy pillowcases and covered scrapbooks to simplified (but heirloom-worthy) log cabin and crazy quilts. Hoverson also shares an overview of her approach to colour as well as the tools and techniques she used to complete the projects in the book.

As a non patchwork/quilting type crafter I had my doubts about buying this book but I was pleasantly surprised! It's a great book, with projects ranging from small couple of hour type ones to big multiple day projects. I have made several of the smaller projects and see myself getting the most use out of this book over any others I have found. Very cute, USABLE things to make that have challenged me as a crafter. I especially enjoyed making Peanut the elephant, a pattern by Hillary Lang from Wee Wonderfuls.
This book is fantastic! It has a range of projects from the simple to the more complicated - something to aim for if you are a beginner. Clear instrcutions, and inspiring photos, and a useful list of suppliers. The patchwork pincushion is my favourite.
Such a beautiful book. Instructions are clear and patterns are easy. Have made the birds on the cover and Peanut the Elephant. Both turned out fantastic. Highly recommended for yourself or as a gift.
Lovely book, I'm inspired every time I look through it. So far I've only made Peanut the elephant, but I'm assuming the instructions for other projects will be as clear and easy to follow. Even though I'm not a quilter I'm looking forward to trying some of the more complicated projects. I especially like that the quilts featured have a contemporary feel to them, suited to the kinds of fabrics I enjoy most.
I love this book. The photos and the projects are just gorgeous. So much inspiration in one book - it's amazing. I'm itching to work on some of these projects! Really well written instructions with lots of other helpful information included as well. This is a definite must have!!!
This book was a gift and the person I gave it too loved it. The gift ideas are simple and easy to make and are a great way of using left over fabrics. The little christmas birds and baby blanket patterns were a realy favourite.
