I was reluctant to read anything else after the twilight series, as I was sure that no other book could live up to my expectations after reading them. However, Stephenie Meyer's unique writing style sucked me right into the story yet again, and although it is considered to be in the "Sci-Fi" genre, it is still very much a love story - again following the same theme of a forbidden and impossible love.

I was reluctant at first to give this story a try as I am not usually a fan of these kinds of stories. However I am glad I did read this as I was not at all disappointed! The story starts off a bit slow but once you get into it you can’t put it down. I would recommend readers of the Twilight series to give this a try as I’m sure you won’t be dissatisfied.

This book is phenomenal. I'm no fan of sci-fi and was initially put off for that reason. I liked the 'Twighlight' series but this (in my opinion) is so much better. Apparently there is to be a sequel and a movie is also being produced in the next 12 months. http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/thehost.html
The characters in this story came to life as soon as they were introduced. Once you get past the first two chapters, the story-line picks up pace and I couldn't put it down from there on in. I cried throughout the book as Melanie and Wanda interacted with the small and unique community living in hiding from the 'souls' who have taken-over planet earth. Jeb, Jamie and Ian became firm favourites and I regularly pick this book up, again and again to re-live Meyer's skillful writing and this extraordinary tale.
There is very little sci-fi in the book. The main thrust of the story is love, relationships, challenges and believing in yourself and those around you in sometimes impossible situations. Since reading it for the first time in 2009, it has become my absolute favourite book and I don't see that changing any time soon!!

I read Twilight because everyone else was and it was starting to annoy me that everyone was talking about it while I had no idea what they were going on about. I found Twilight to be shallow and very much aimed at 14 year old girls who have boy crushes.
When someone bought me The Host as a gift I was reluctant to read it because Twilight had been so vapid. However I relented and gave it a go. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The writing was aimed at an older audience, and there was less of Stephanie Meyer's Scientology-inspired ideology present in the plot and character portrayal. It was a thought-provoking and insightful book and, while still aimed at a teenaged audience, I would recommend it for young adult readers, fans of Twilight or otherwise.

I love this book. I think the story line is very unique; intriguing and facinating. So many stories are apocalyptic and in the Host I really enjoyed the view of the other side of the story.

I am quite surprised to see so many 5 star reviews here! I am generally easy to please when it comes to books and I will give anything a go, but this book did NOT do it for me at all! I had very high expectations as I am a Twilight fan, and I was rather dissappointed. The book dragged and dragged and once I reached half way I was thinking what a waste of time reading this! But I pushed myself to finish and I have to say the end was much more interesting than the beginning. Talk about getting to the point! I felt the end was very rushed after such a dragged out beginning/middle. It was ok, I'm glad I gave it a go but wont be reading it again.

'The Host' is one of my favourite books, it's a story I've read over and over, I found I enjoyed it even more than the 'Twilight' series and was sad to finish the book wishing the story would keep going. The main characters Wanderer (Wanda), Melanie, Ian, Jared and Jaime were beautifully thought out, easy to relate to and still complex. Wanderer and Melanie were an unlikely pair of personalities who share a body and come to not only love Melanie's human family but also each other. This story is a romantic and a truthful look at who we are as humans and the lengths we'll go to, to be with and protect the people we love.

I don't normally go for this type of book but after the first few chapters I quite got into this one. Albeit slow to start, Meyers has done a great job of this one and its worth a read.

Ok, I'll admit it... I'm in my 30's and I read the Twilight series then I found this. And this book is BRILLIANT. I love the story, love the characters - I can't find a fav amongst her characters. I've now read this book over 10 times - it's very addictive and great to fall back on from reading real 'adult' stuff (like Ware & Peace that I've tried to read and can't get past the first chapter!).
I definitely recommend it, it's not like the Twilight series - so don't be put off by that!

Loved this book. How Stephanie thought of it I dont know. Its Genius! Its a beautiful story that in my eyes it gives you a sense of love and hope. I would reccommend this book to anyone whether they liked the twilight saga or even if they wernt into sci-fi. Its a good read. Personally I enjoyed it alot more than Twilight. Just because its different and has alot more meaning behind it. Stephanie Meyer did a fabulous job on this book. Anyone should really have a look at it.
