Osip Mandelstam (1891-1938) was born and raised in St. Petersburg,
Russia. Asan established poet, Mandelstam was unpopular with Soviet
authorities and foundit increasingly difficult to publish his
poetry. The Selected Poems of Osip Mandelstamand Voronezh Notebooks
are published by NYRB.

Clarence Brown(1929-2015) was the author of severalworks on Osip
Mandelstam, Professor Emeritus of Comparative Literature
atPrinceton University, and editor of The Portable
Twentieth-Century Russian Reader.
