The husband-and-wife team of Sam and Remi Fargo are used to hunting for treasure, but they aren't used to hunting for people - until an investigator friend of theirs goes missing, and they promise to search for him. What they find, however, will be beyond anything they could have imagined. On a journey that will take them to Tibet, Nepal, China, Venice, and Siberia, the Fargos will find themselves embroiled with black market fossils, an ancient Tibetan kingdom, a lost landmass in the North Sea, stone-age ostrich egg shards inscribed in a cryptic language, a pair of battles separated by thousands of miles and hundreds of years...and a skeleton that could just turn the history of human evolution on its head. |
ReviewsHusband-and-wife treasure hunters Sam and Remi Fargo are back for another action-packed adventure in this third book in the Fargo Adventure series from Cussler and Blackwood. An eccentric Texas billionaire brings the couple to Nepal and the Himalayan Mountains to search for a missing employee, but clues reveal their employer's goal is something altogether more avaricious. Thus begins a dangerous quest for fabled treasure. Like all Cussler thrillers, there are the requisite beautiful, brilliant, wealthy, athletic, expert protagonists, and the greedy, evil, cruel, conniving foes-and Cussler fans will absolutely love it. Scott Brick is as proficient as ever, enthralling listeners with his precise, dramatic narration. Cussler stories always begin with a fascinating mix of history, science, fact, and fiction, and Brick delivers these by creating believable accents and speech patterns for a wide variety of characters. Between the writing and the narrator's top-notch performance, this audiobook is exactly what listeners have come to expect from the series, and that makes it rewarding. A Putnam hardcover. In their third adventure (after Spartan Gold and Lost Treasure), we find husband-and-wife treasure hunters Sam and Remi Fargo on an archaeological dig in Sumatra. Immediately, they are called away to find a lost man, a friend. But is he really lost, or does the Texas billionaire who hires them have another agenda? Through many dangers, the Fargos intrepidly move to solve a centuries-old mystery involving an ancient Tibetan kingdom, Chinese puzzle chests used to safeguard a secret, and an ancient balloon aircraft. Sam and Remi are smart, likable protagonists who apparently went to the MacGyver school of getting out of a jam, with some sticks and some 100-year-old sinew. Verdict Perilous journeys through some of the most beautiful countries in the world and action-packed adventures experienced by a couple who love each other make for an enjoyable thrill ride of a summer read.
