David Hurley was born in Fontainbleau, France. One of his first words was Homard, the French word for lobster. Raised in the suburbs of New Jersey, he escaped in 1980 to settle in mid-coast Maine. He has a studio in Belfast where he takes frequent naps and creates his artwork. He also works as a bartender, waiter, and housepainter. His illustrations have appeared in Yankee magazine and Reader's Digest. He lives in Swanville, Maine with his wife and three sons. He is allergic to lobster.
