This is a really good piece of Australian teen fiction. I read this book in high school for English, although I had already seen the movie version.
Looking for Alibrandi is a journey of self-discovery (as the title suggests) set in the heart of Australian's vaast but tight-knit Italian community. Josie Alibrandi is second generation Italian-Australian and has just received a scolarship to attend a prestigious Catholic girls school. The book is her struggle to fit in to the uppercrust world of private school and also deals with first loves and the importances of staying true to yourself.
By dealing with the differences in class she also finds out more about herself.
A great read for young teenagers - 13-15 year olds - that older teenagers and adults will also enjoy.
This book was amazing, one of my favourites. Very special for teen readers, covers love, school, family, peer pressure and social status.... everything.... Definetly a must-read for all ages, as it evokes so many emotions... made me laugh and cry...

This is one of the most brilliant books i have ever read (i have read ALOT of books). With witty original diologue, and lovable, charactors that anyone can relate to.. especially the main character Josie. I have read this book more times than i can count. I highly recommend anything written by Melina Marchetta, she has a way with words and creates characters you will never forget!
After many years, i have finally read this book. If you live in Australia and you are 'ethnic', you can really relate to this book. School, love, friends and life in general is a struggle we all go through. it's nice to see that i'm not the only one. its a short novel that is very enjoyable to read. Read it and you will realise that life aint too bad.
there is no body like melina marchetta who can draw a reader into a book from the very first page and keep him or her hooked until long after the last one has been closed. this is the surprising funny, always poignant little story of josephine alibrandi and her last year of high school. top notch stuff
This is my fave book it is brilliantly written and can make you cry and laugh at the same time i am also a fan of the movie. I cant say a bad word about this book. it is the kind of book that i find myself reading over and over again. definetly five stars
