A very comprehensive guide at the New Zealand music industry, this book is not only for musicians but also for students studying the industry, people aiming to enter the music industry, or just anyone who is interested in how New Zealand music is made. It covers all the essential areas, like setting up a band, recording, mixing and producing an album, touring, how to get on radio and television to the function of organisations such as APRA, RIANZ and PPNZ. It covers them all in simple yet detailed terms, with tips and hints from talented and respected New Zealand artists such as Shihad, Blindspott, Pluto and Bic Runga to industry professionals like Brendan Smyth (NZ On Air) and Paul Kennedy (Editor of MedianStrip).
An enjoyable and eye-opening read, and it shows you the inner workings of a vibrant industry that relies almost purely on your own drive to succeed in music. However if you're serious about making music, this is not the only book you should rely on, but it does cover the basics and it's an invaluable guide to the industry in dear old New Zealand!
