A comprehensive introduction to the materials, tools, equipment, and techniques used to make unique beads with a variety of shapes, colors, and finishes. The straightforward instructions discuss topics that include conditioning raw clay and making simple shapes; producing more complex shapes, such as rounds, canes, and spirals; decorating the beads with foils, powders, and millefiori; and creating faux effects like ivory, bone, turquoise, marble, and silver. A gallery of beads by internationally renowned artists, hundreds of step-by-step photographs of new beads designed by the author, and a clay gauge that allows one to estimate how much clay is necessary to make a specific quantity of beads are included, making this a comprehensive guide that will provide inspiration, demonstrate the range of effects that can be achieved in polymer clay, and teach beaders how to incorporate these beads into jewelry designs.

"If you've ever thought about trying polymer clay but didn't know where to start, this book is perfect for you." --"South Jersey Bead Society"
This book is fantastic! It covers just about every imaginable technique for making polymer clay beads that could possibly exist, with loads and loads of beautiful inspiring photos, both of methods and of finished projects. Everything from polymer clay chains (!) to faux stones is here. If you can only afford one book on polymer clay, this would be a good choice.
This is one of the most brilliant polymer clay books I have seen. A great section on tools and techniques to get you started and then a mind blowing selection of beads and faux techniques to satisfy beginner to more advanced. This is a book that you can dip in and out of and you will return to it again and again. The artists gallery at the back of the book is truly inspirational. If you want to make a variety of beads to create your own jewelley then look no further than this book. Highly recommended.
One of those brilliant books filled from cover to cover with hints, tips, techniques and inspiration.
How DO you make beads like these? Apart from practice, obviously, you need to know how the techniques show actually _work_. Its all very well to describe, for example, a skinner blend but without knowing how the subtle shading it gives is applied, you won't understand how to apply the effect to get the result you want.
This is where the book excels. Lots of examples, lots of 'how does...' pictures to look at. Lots of colour and texture combinations. By the time you work through this, what you've learned should be enough to make it possible for you to make almost any kind of bead you could desire.
