Roni has been in love with Taber since she was a little girl. She has struggled to survive living with a father who is never home, and only cared about himself. Roni is older now and can not seem to stay out of trouble. Taber is always there to her rescue. With every encounter their lust for each other, grows stronger, deeper

This is one of the author's early breed books and is captivating. Taber and Roni are strong and determined characters who fall crazy in love with each other but not until they deal with a lot of emotional turmoil. Their romance is scorchingly hot and very intense as Taber and Roni battle everyone in their quest to be together. There's the usual suspense and dangerous villain, who gets what he deserves at the end, and lots of fascinating characters. Brilliant read.

See the review above for the background and commentary re Lora Leigh’s ‘Breed’ series’. ‘The Man Within’ has more plot than ‘Jacob’s Faith’, but I was disappointed with Leigh’s use of a very ancient plot contrivance to separate the characters. You’ll know it when you read it, and really, as if two strong characters like Roni and Taber wouldn’t have confronted each other about the—well, read the book and you’ll understand. Like Jacob and Faith [above], Roni and Taber are separated through no fault of their own [except stupidity], and reunited when Roni is endangered by her father and his friends. As with ‘Jacob’s Faith’, there is a lot of sex, some quite graphic, but the romance is just as strong. There are some typos, things that an editor didn’t check, such as Roni being the same age three years after she turned twenty-two, but overall it’s not a bad story. I feel Leigh became a better writer, however, when she went mainstream. Her book, ‘Megan’s Mark’, for example, is just as sensual but the plotline is much denser and more complete.
