By the same author as Golden Goblet, which was more of a younger book (and better suited to boys) this one has intrigue and romance so is better suited to teenage girls, many I know who have read it and re-read many times over!
The author is very good an opening the reader to life in Ancient Egypt and if you are not a facts person then both her fictional books based in Ancient Egypt would suit you - you get to enjoy a good mystery whilst also building a better picture of life in that era.
Mara is an Egyptian slave girl who escapes an abusive master, only to find herself blackmailed into being a spy - for two opposing sides! It doesn't help that one of her new masters is young, clever, very attractive...and suspicious of Mara. A great YA historical romance with plenty of excitement and danger.
