There's no-body quite like Matilda. I read this book for the first time on my sixth birthday, devouring it in an afternoon. I'm now 20+, and reread it on a regular basis. It reminds me of who I want to be. The story is timeless - all at once innocent, darkly humorous, joyous and despairing. In Matilda, you have a young girl who loves books, uses her brain (for good and just for mischief) and is learning about the world. Go past the pink plastic toys and the franchises, and buy this book.

I would highly recommend this book to everyone, including adults because there are just so many messages that you can take away from this book. The magic that Mathilda is able to weave will captivate the young children and make them interested in the story. Mathilda also presents some problems which some children can identify with, including domestic issues ie. child neglect and school problems ie. the principal and her friends. Luckily, her teacher is more observant and realizes the intelligence Mathilda has and seeks to help her develop herself. Sometimes, it just takes one person to notice the child's worth and that can make her stronger both in character and strength.

This book is about a charming gifted little girl named Matilda who is being raised in a family who don't appreciate her at all. Her headmistress (Trunchbull) is evil but luckily her teacher notices her intelligence and takes an interest in her and the story gets much more interesting when Matilda discovers she has secret powers... would recommend to anyone.
