About the Author

Karen Lee Boren was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with these Midwestern roots serving as inspiration for some of her stories and characters. Currently, Karen is working as a professor at Rhode Island College. Her alma maters include the University of Wisconson-Milwaukee, where she obtained both her BA and PhD, and Wichita State University, where she earned an MFA in creative writing. Of this collection, she says: The stories themselves reflect my own deepening belief in the ability of fiction to bring us closer to other people than any other artistic medium. In a way, fiction brings us closer to other people than actual life.
