A Goddess version of the Jungian concept of the shadow self which examines how we can learn to understand ourselves more fully and weather the bad times by understanding the symbolism of the "dark" Goddesses in ancient lore. The book aims to maximize the potentiality for meaning, healing and creativity that naturally reside in the dark phase. Demetra George explores the ways that modern culture has denied the dark and thus has remained unaware of the potential for healing and renewal that exist in the dark phase of the cyclic process. By the author of "Asteroid Goddesses" and "Astrology for Yourself".

The Dark Goddess bring us profoundly into wholeness, and through our encounters with Her ancient wisdom, we can experience the ecstasy of the original wildness and psychic freedom that belonged to women before patriarchy."-- Vicki Noble, author of "Shakti Woman"Demetra George reveals the true, transformative nature of the Dark Goddess who has been in eclipse for too long. She explores the cyclic phases of the Goddess through time and inner space and helps the reader discover her affinity to this changing Goddess."-- Caitlin Matthews, author of "Sophia: Goddess of Wisdom"A revealing journey into the deep, healing power of the archetypal feminine."-- Douglas Bloch, author of "Words That Heal"Brimming with insight, information, and mystery...For everyone with thirsty souls and inquiring minds."-- Michael Lutin, author of "Childhood Rising and "Made in Heaven
The plus side: Demetra George is an astrological genius. Thus this book is brilliant and filled with an abundance of scholarly information. If you want to deepen your knowledge of things astrological and mythological, read this book. It truly is a marvelous work.
The down side: While the endorsement on the front reads, "For EVERYONE with thirsty souls and inquiring minds", the back reveals it is "WOMEN'S STUDIES". When reading it myself, I found the bias to be exactly that, and the subtle female chauvinistic comments dropped here-and-there(albeit seldom)factually turned me off completing the book, and so I gave it away.
If one were to wonder why there was a dominance of male power at particular points in history, research now shows that once upon a time it was the reverse and Patriarchy was a reaction to Matriarchy. Now, hopefully, since the 1960s and into the new current millennium which we call the Age Of Aquarius, balance between and among the genders is being gradually realized and restored.
While men and women are indeed different, they are in so very many ways the same. The differences need to be acknowledged and respected, so does the sameness. The way of the Goddess, and of God for that matter, is Oneness.
