The Essential 55 is a brilliant resource for teachers of 'challenging' children. Ron Clark provides a detailed explanation of 55 rules based upon high expectations, etiquette, self-respect and consistency. Some of the rules aren't relevant in day schools in Australia (about 4 of them) but the rest definitely are!! I first saw the movie, then bought the book and have been implementing the rules ever since with remarkable success. It doesn't happen overnight, but with consistent implementation of the rules, you will notice the difference it makes to your classroom and your students' behaviour.
