this book was grounbreaking at the time it was written but it has now been surpassed by all the research into death and dying that has happned over the last 20 + years. The conclusions about the five stages of grief are no longer supported by the research, yet they are still promoted as being accurate. it is an excellent read as a basis to the history of the grief field but it is superseeded in accuracy e.g Worden is better.
insightful book about how important human contact is for the terminally ill. Written decades ago, this book still has much to teach us about a subject that is often seen as taboo...learning the emotional stages and how to assist in ways that keep the persons dignity in tact. Highly recommended reading.
