I don't normally read stories like this (genre, target audience etc.) but i really liked it. Being a teenager today i felt that i could relate to the characters - not to the fights and stuff but to the rivalry between social groups. The names and styles have definately changed but the nmain idea is still the same. This story could be set in any time and still fit. It is a universial story that almost anyone will like. And because the author was 16 when the book was published, the story didn't have the vibe of an adult trying to write about young people which was a change from the norm.

I was never a big reader as a child but for some reason i really loved this book, it wasnt as if it was a happy book, i guess it was because it was so interesting well i found it very iteresting, if your not much of a reader, i definately recommend this book! 10/10~

This is a fabulous book and a must read for any teenager or adult. The characters leap off the page and into your heart. It's a war between rich and poor - the 'soc's and the 'greasers'. Ponyboy Curtis narrates the story and it always makes me cry. You'll fall in love with Johnny, laugh at Sodapop's antics, cry with the gang about Dallas... don't bother with the movie, the book is superb.

My absolute favourite book of all-time, even at 37 years old I still love to read this story again and again, the timeless tale of two rival gangs may be a common enough story, but the story of Ponyboy and Johnny really draws the reader in...the interesting thing about this book is that Susie Hinton actually based this tale on true facts that personally affected her own life. My rating a 5+ ******!

I love this book. I read it when I was about 12, and then it became a school text when I was about 14, so I was wrapped. It's the great story of the two gangs, the Socs and the Greasers, the narrotor is a Greaser, and he has a very clear mind that is easy to vibe with. Highly recommended.

I love this story since the first time I read it as a teenager.I like some of the names the kids had like Ponyboy,sodapop(soda) for short,Rusty and Dallas.I also remember crying over Johnny's death.That has stayed with me since and I still find it sad today.But there is also alot of humorous parts as well.I think you should read this story.

This is a great book for teenagers because they can relate so well to the main character, Ponyboy. Although he is a boy, he appeals to males and females alike. He is sensitive and intelligent and the story is told through his eyes. Although this story is set in America in the late 50s (I think) it has a universal appeal with themes like teenage alientation, poverty, group politics and, of course, love. There is even a Robert Frost poem that plays a large part in the book. A timeless classic.
