lemony snicket grabs the chance to stuff readers chock a block (but never too full) of last mintue info about the history of the vfd and the failure of a certain schism. the baude laire orphans discover all this and more when they dress up as concierges to get into the hotel denoement, the last safe place on earth

the great thing about the penultimate peril, the twelfth book in the Series of Unfortunate Events series, is that the readers get to experience the reappearence of many characters from previous books, from the evil principal nero to the always present count olaf. an excellent second last book to a great series

After a mysterious Fire the three Baudelaire children find themselves orphans. Each Book although short finds the children being placed into the care of a different close relitive (close geographically, not genetically). But by the end of each hope is dashed as the evil Count Olaf destroys any hope the children may gain.
All the while each of the Childrens talents are bent towards surviving Olafs schemes, and hopefully putting him away where he can never steal their Fortune which Violet inherits when she reaches 18.
