Mike Bechtle (PhD, Arizona State University) is the author of Confident Conversation. His articles have appeared in publications such as Discipleship Journal, Moody, and Entrepreneur. He is a frequent speaker and former minister of worship in Brea, California.
Read by the author, this self-help title focuses on a practical application of the Serenity Prayer within the drama of our lives: God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. In other words, don't sweat the wrong stuff, don't live as a victim, and don't try to fix other people; rather, put your energy into your own choices and attitudes. We can choose our response to emotional drama because we are responsible for ourselves, not for "the crazies." Bible references appear throughout as Bechtle quotes Proverbs and other scripture passages. -VERDICT Although working within a Christian framework, there is no proselytizing as Bechtle gives a low-key but confident reading.-Karen Perry, Univ. of North Carolina, Greensboro (c) Copyright 2013.
