The spirited child - often called "difficult" or "strong-willed" - possesses traits we value in adults yet find challenging in children.
"The book will prove to be a real lifesaver." --Louise Bates Ames, author and association director, Gessell Institute of Human "Through excellent examples and easy-to-read text, this book provides parents with a pathway to understanding their child's temperament and to a place where parents can balance the needs of their child's unique temperament with their own needs and those of their family." -- James Cameron, Ph.D., executive director, The Preventive Ounce, Berkeley, California
This is an excellent book. It helps the reader to "work out' the people around them (and work out themselves!). It covers areas like introvert vs extrovert, adaptability, persistence, and a host of other human qualities and outlines the positives and negatives of each stance. I have been giving it to people for more than 10 years and they all thank me for it! It saves a lot of stress!!!
The single most useful book I have come across in my nine years as a parent. Has helped me understand my spirited 3 year old, and also my own spirited temperament. Also has excellent useful strategies for parenting in general. Well worth considering the accompanying Workbook.
This is a great book. I've read it from cover to cover and regularly go back to different sections to refresh my memory and parenting skills. Whenever I get a bit off track, this is the book I turn to.
