The first book in the trilogy and it sets the stage and the pace perfectly. Some genuinely dark moments written in to remind us that there is balance and that the good guys do get smacked also. Wonderful character development and a few genuinely geeky Sci Fi sections made this book very hard for me to put down. (Given the weight of the book that was no mean effort by the author.)

I love Hamilton's work, but being honest I could not finish this series after this book. Oh, not because it's bad, because it's so well realised it actually quite frightened me.
If I ever get the nerve together I look forward to reading the next instalment, but if you're made of harder stuff than me this is well recommended.

Havn't fininshed reading yet, but if you're into sci-fi epic space opera's this is the one for you.
I would put myself in the above category, but find that, much like the Peter F Hamiltons other novels I've read, it can be hard keeping track of the massive number of characters.
Still, thumbs up from me.

Night's Dawn trilogy is by a fair margin my favourite Sci-Fi epic to date. This is Hamilton at his story-telling best, with heaps of 3D characters, brilliant science and some quite steamy sex. A total geek-out fantasy with living ships, supernatural villains and an underlying allusion to spirituality that left me wanting more even as I finished the final volume, The Naked God.

This is the first book in Peter F Hamilton's award winning Nights Dawn Trilogy. This book is like most of the authors books in that it involves a lot of characters and plot threads. Because of this the book takes a long time to get started with the introduction of the main threat of the series with it being introduced half way into the book and coming to the fore in the climax. For people that like this style, this is a great book that must be read.

This is space opera on the grandest of scales - new worlds, amazing technologies, strange alien races and spacecraft of all shapes and sizes. There's lots of great stuff in this book but it is spoiled by one of the main antagonist's (and the author's) preoccupation with sex. These interludes are unoriginal and happen so often as to become an annoying diversion from the story. And Mr Hamilton doesn't seem to understand the function of the comma. A potentially great book hampered by irritating flaws

Simply outstanding. Peter F Hamilton has ruined all other Sci Fi for me - he really is that good.
