– Customer review on 25/06/2007 I never knew the power of reading tips and visualising in surfing until I read this book. It truly has helped my surfing massively.
I have been surfing quite religiously for around 8 years now and it had a lot to offer me. Taj Burrow's takes you through particular maneuvers talking you through what you should be feeling, what you should be doing with your upper body, how your weight placement needs to change, common pitfalls, all step by step.
I found it helped a lot to read the book then try and visualise the maneuver in my mind from what he has described. Funnily enough next time I would go for a surf and be in a position to try the new move I would do it a hell of a lot better than usual. Sometimes a little tip here and there can make all the difference when your own devices don't single out what you're doing wrong.
This book will also be useful for a beginner surfer as it starts right from the basics of how to paddle, how to duck-dive, how to get to your feet, how to surf safe, respecting locals, the drop in rule. It goes through quite a bit, right up to your more advanced moves such as alley oop airs, air reverses and tail wafts. The advanced moves are not all new school airs or "hot-dogging" tricks, theres a lot of lip-work and face-work there too.
Taj's attitude and style of teaching is very good too. It filled me with a little bit of a spark to want to surf more often and try and surf well. One quote that stood out in the book for me is "Remember, the only difference between me and you is persistence and time in the water". That hit home with me.
Anyhow, if you want to learn the ins and outs of surfing or you're an already established surfer and want to supercharge your learning then get this book. Its top stuff and no gimmick.
