It is perfectly possible to enjoy a range of delicious salads throughout the year, provided the garden is kept well tilled and fertilised, ready to replace one season's salad ingredients with the next. In his new book, expert gardener and photographer Dennis Greville has selected a tasty array of traditional and some more unusual salad ingredients to combine and complement one another throughout the year. With the increasing popularity of outdoor markets, gardeners have become familiar with new and unusual vegetables, herbs and fruit that derive from different ethnic communities around the world. This book includes ingredients from Asia and the Middle East as well as the traditional green leaves more often associated with salad. The book is structured around the four seasons. A range of plants is described, including herbs and some fruit, with notes about their growing requirements and a description of their particular characteristics for use in a salad. Recipe suggestions, salad dressings and a mayonnaise, complete the package. For use in the garden and reference in the kitchen, this book is inspirational.
