Mark Milbank was born in England at the onset of World War II, before emigrating to Kenya with his parents during the post-war depression. Mark was to spend the following sixty-five years in Africa on a rollercoaster ride from the colonial days of Kenya and the Mau Mau rebellion, through apartheid South Africa, Rhodesia's UDI and bush war, to Independence and prosperity, and finally the purge of Zimbabwe's white farmers and the country's subsequent chaos. He still lives in Zimbabwe with his second wife Nikki, plays bad golf, and tries to visit his now scattered family as often as possible.

I have found it absolutely fascinating and have been unable to put it down -and what a feat of memory. John Yeldham
