Great insight into the world of the deaf. Thought provoking and mind opening. It is like discovering a whole other world and is absolutely fascinating. Although Non-fiction it is easy to understand and not difficult to read. Leaves you wanting to know more and wanting others to learn about it. Definately worth a look.

This is a brilliant book that manages to do that most difficult of things: give the reader as close to an impossible experience of the subject as possible. Sacks takes a look at the deaf community in this absorbing book, and though a hearing person cannot know what it is like to be deaf, this book gives the reader an understanding of some of the issues the deaf face, and insight into the nature of their languages (emphasis on the plural; sign lanaguages are most definitely not all the same). A book that truly expands the horizons.
