About the Author

Nadja Knab-Leers lives with her husband and son in Waldkirch in the Black Forest region of Germany. Throughout her life, she has had a strong desire to express her creativity through fabric. Shortly after completing her training as the manager of a fashion studio, she accepted an offer from a well-known handicraft company that meant she could extend her creative passion to other mediums. She wrote magazine articles, and gave demonstrations on television and at trade fairs. In this book, Nadja has aimed to come up with ideas that are a little different, following her motto: 'Paying attention to little things makes everyday life a bit more special and adds joie de vivre. Heike Roland and Stefanie Thomas became friends in 1996 at a teddy bear trade fair, as a result of their mutual interest in making teddy bears. From then on, they travelled together with their families and their handmade bears to sales exhibitions in Germany, Austria, the UK and the USA. At some point, their 'bear fever' subsided and they pursued their creativity in other areas. Their first book was published in 2004.

Reviews

These three German authors love Scandinavian design - don't we all? If you need persuading- this book will achieve that. Gorgeous gifts to make. Yes, it's reminiscent of Tone Finnanger, my favourite Scandinavian crafts author. The big plus about this book is the pull-out, full-size patterns that are included on good quality pattern sheets at the back. This is a very special book that helps to make a house a home. It's full of ideas that will warm your heart. You'll want to make them for yourself as well as for friends. As gifts, they will be most welcome. Everything from pillows, charming creatures, that delightful teddy on the front cover, hearts, journal covers and all those hand-made things your heart desires. Well designed with great photography, this is a beautiful book.-Karenplatt.co.uk Homemakers who love the fresh fabrics, simple lines and cheerful style of contemporary Scandinavian designs will find plenty to choose from in this lovely title. Readers can learn to make storage bags and boxes, dress a fine dining table, keep warm in cosy slippers and brighten up a room with stylish lampshades. There are also lots of small items to give as gifts including padded hearts, cards, bookmarks, garlands and character toys that are sure to add a touch of fun to their surroundings. The book contains a full size pattern sheet and each project comes complete with a detailed list of materials and complete instructions. Most of them are easy to stitch making this title ideal for sewists of all levels of expertise.-Sewing World Thank you very much for the Scandinavian sewing book. There are a great many interesting ideas for things which will delight my grandchildren and which I shall enjoy making very much. Most of the items do not require a great deal of material and I shall be able to make good use of my 'stash'.-Susan Lindley, Customer This beautiful book is here to provide you with inspiration and ideas for your crafty makes, and will definitely come in useful when replicating the trendy Scandinavian style.-Crafts Beautiful

3 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 13/01/2011

I was unable to see a peek preview inside this book but took a chance anyhow.

I was hoping that this book would have some quirky, contemporary projects but unfortunately there were only two projects that I thought were ok out of the 55 projects in the book.

This is not a bad book, it is just not the style I like more your local market handmade stuff your nanna would make, if this is what you are looking for great. The plus about this book is that all patterns are full size so you dont have to find a photocopier and blow every pattern up and instructions seem simple and not too long. Most projects could be attempted by beginners.
